With the opening of the registrations for the amateur events of the upcoming Tata Steel Chess Tournament, October 30th was marked in the agendas of many chess fanatics. Next to the Tata Steel Masters and Challengers, amateurs players of all levels have the opportunity to play chess next to the world’s best players in the Weekend three-round, Weekday three-round and Nine-round events. It resulted in an overwhelming amount of registrations.
Madness during first hours
It only took several hours for the Weekend three-round and Nine-round event to reach capacity, as the first people were already put on the waiting list. At the current moment, the waiting list for the Weekend three-round event is already overbooked and it is not possible anymore to register for this event.
Slots available for the Weekday three-round event
The only amateur tournament in which you can still guarantee yourself a spot in January is the Weekday three-round event, which takes place 15-17 January 2024. Registration for the Nine-round event is also still possible, but here you will be placed on the waiting list.
