Tata Steel Chess Festival 2026 returns to Wijk aan Zee on 24 & 25 January

During the middle weekend of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2026, the Tata Steel Chess Festival once again takes place in Wijk aan Zee. On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 January, chess fans, families and visitors can enjoy two days full of chess, games and activities throughout the village.

The festival runs daily from 11:30 to 16:00 and is free to attend.

What is the Tata Steel Chess Festival?

The Tata Steel Chess Festival is a long-standing tradition within the Tata Steel Chess Tournament. It combines top-level chess with accessible activities for a broad audience, bringing together grandmasters, amateur players, families and visitors in an informal and welcoming setting.

During the festival weekend, chess is visible and accessible across multiple locations in Wijk aan Zee.

Activities for all ages in Wijk aan Zee

In addition to watching the world’s best players compete in De Moriaan, visitors can take part in a wide range of activities, including:

Tata-Kids of Steel® Games: chess, movement and creativity

A highlight for younger visitors is the Tata-Kids of Steel® Games. Children are invited to explore three key elements essential for brain development:
chess, movement and creativity.

After completing activities in all three categories, participants receive a Tata-Kids of Steel® medal.

The Tata Steel Chess Festival takes place during the 88th edition of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament, held in Wijk aan Zee from 16 January to 1 February 2026. All playing days of the tournament are free to attend after registration, and games can also be followed online via the official channels.
