Tata Steel Chess Rapid Tournament Returns!
The tradition of the rapid tournament
The Tata Steel Chess Tournament is reviving a beloved tradition! On Saturday, January 31, 2026, we will host the Tata Steel Chess Rapid Tournament at the charming Hotel Hoge Duin in Wijk aan Zee. A day full of exciting games, quick moves, and pure chess enjoyment.
This Rapid Tournament consists of seven rounds following the Swiss system, with a time control of 15 minutes per game plus 5 seconds increment per move. FIDE rules (Appendix A – Rapid) apply.
There is room for approximately 100 participants, so don’t miss out!

- 1st place: €200

Rating prizes:
- ELO 1800–2100: €50 / €25
- ELO 1500–1800: €25
Final Ranking / Tiebreak System
In case of a tie, the final ranking will be determined as follows:
a) Results between the players involved (only to determine the tournament winner);
b) Buchholz (sum of opponents’ scores);
c) Sonneborn-Berger score;
d) Progressive score;
e) Number of games won;
f) Drawing of lots.
