Biography
Ediz Gürel is a chess prodigy who is Turkey's #1 chess player! He achieved the Grandmaster title in 2024, becoming the youngest in his country. He began playing chess at the age of seven and rapidly ascended the ranks, earning international recognition. Notably, Gürel secured victory in the Challengers section of the 2024 Prague Chess Festival, finishing undefeated with a +4 score. His performance at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest further highlighted his talent, where he earned an individual bronze medal by scoring 9/11 on board two. As of January 2025, Gürel holds a FIDE rating of 2624, ranking him 123rd globally.
