Biography
Gukesh Dommaraju was born on 29 May 2006 in Chennai, India. He earned the grandmaster title in 2019.
Gukesh has competed in the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in Wijk aan Zee multiple times. His best result in the Masters came in 2024 and 2025, where he just missed the championship in tiebreaks.
Outside Wijk aan Zee, Gukesh won the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2024, earning the right to challenge for the World Championship. Later that year, he became the current World Chess Champion, making him the youngest player in history to hold the title.
Gukesh has reached a peak classical rating of 2794 and has been ranked among the world’s top players for a long time.
At the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2026, he competes in the Masters group in Wijk aan Zee and is looking for his first Tata Steel Masters Championship.
