Wijk aan Zee, January 12, 2024 – The 86th edition of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament opened with a gong by Alderman Niek Wijmenga of the municipality of Beverwijk. Until Sunday January 28, Wijk aan Zee will once again be the global center of chess.The opening ceremony took place in the conference center of Tata Steel in the Netherlands. The players from the Masters and the Challengers were present at the opening. Tournament director Jeroen van den Berg made the official draw of lots for the Tata Steel Masters together with FIDE general manager Dana Reizniece-Ozola.
