The organisation of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament will ensure a COVID-19 safe event through close collaboration with the Municipality of Beverwijk, the national and regional Health & Safety bodies and correct application of the reigning RIVM, FIDE and KNSB rules related to COVID-19. The organisation closely monitors the current COVID-19 measures as safety is our number one priority for the community, the players, the spectators and the organising staff. The Tata Steel Chess Tournament will always follow the government rules.
From November 12 onwards, both amateur and topsport events can be organised, but without spectators. At the moment, it is not clear whether these measures will still apply during the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in January 2022. The organisation will monitor this closely and will provide updates when more is known about the format of the tournament.
More information about the definite format of the 84th edition of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament will follow later.’
